Cline
How UsageNow reads Cline tokens, requests, models, and cost from the tasks and sessions Cline saves on your Mac.
On this page
UsageNow shows your Cline activity for today — tokens, API requests, the models that answered, and what Cline worked out those requests cost — and a 30-day history. It reads the tasks the Cline extension saves in your editor and the sessions the command-line Cline saves. It doesn't show a usage limit.
Requirements#
- Cline installed — the extension in VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Kiro, VSCodium, or Trae, or the
clineCLI - At least one task run, so Cline has saved some requests
Today's activity#
Cline records every API request it makes, with its token counts and the cost it worked out from the provider's prices. UsageNow adds them up for:
- tokens today — input, output, and tokens read from or written to the prompt cache
- requests — API requests made today
- most recent model and activity by model
- ≈ cost — the cost Cline recorded, not UsageNow's own estimate. A request Cline recorded no cost for is priced from UsageNow's table when the model has a published price; otherwise the total reads partial.
Cline runs on whichever provider you connect — Anthropic, OpenAI, OpenRouter, a local model, and many more — so the models in the list are the ones you chose there.
What is read, and what isn't#
- Editor tasks (
ui_messages.json). Cline keeps each request as a message whose text holds the token counts and cost beside the request it sent. UsageNow reads that one kind of message; the request passes through memory while the numbers are read and is never kept or logged. Every other message — your prompts, Cline's replies, tool output — is skipped. - CLI sessions (
*.messages.json). Each answer carries its numbers beside its content; the content is never decoded.
Cline's keys — secrets.json, and the editor's secret storage — are never opened. Task files are rewritten as a task goes on, so each is read again only when it changes.
No usage limit#
Cline has no limit of its own: limits belong to the provider you run it with. The Cline section says Usage limits unavailable.
Where UsageNow looks#
~/Library/Application Support/<editor>/User/globalStorage/saoudrizwan.claude-dev/tasks/for VS Code (stable and Insiders), Cursor, Windsurf, Kiro, VSCodium, and Trae~/.cline/data/sessions/and~/.cline/data/tasks/for the command-line Cline
It recognizes Cline as installed when one of those folders exists, or when the cline CLI is in ~/.local/bin, Homebrew, /usr/local/bin, Bun, or a Node version under nvm. Forks such as Roo Code and Kilo Code keep their tasks under their own names and aren't read.
