JetBrains AI
Experimental local AI Assistant quota from your JetBrains IDE, without credentials or network requests.
UsageNow reads the AI Assistant quota your JetBrains IDE has already saved on this Mac. It can show the remaining monthly tariff allowance and a refill date in the menu bar and widgets. Validation against an active AI Assistant subscription is still pending. This is a local-format integration, not an official JetBrains usage API.
Set up#
- Open your JetBrains IDE and use its own AI Assistant sign-in and usage controls.
- Enable JetBrains AI in UsageNow › Settings › Providers.
- Refresh UsageNow after the IDE has written its quota data.
There is no JetBrains login, API key, or Keychain prompt in UsageNow. Installing an IDE alone does not guarantee that it has saved a usable quota.
What is shown#
- Monthly tariff remaining, when the IDE reports the monthly portion of the allowance. Purchased top-ups are not added to that percentage.
- Refill time, only when explicitly reported. A quota's expiry time is not treated as a monthly reset.
- Allowance, without an invented monthly reset, when only a total percentage is available.
- Original reading time and the source IDE in the app. Re-reading an unchanged cache does not make its quota fresh.
There are no token counts, model activity, currency estimates, absolute top-up counters, inferred plan names, or organization-wide analytics.
Local sources#
UsageNow looks in known versioned JetBrains and Android Studio directories for options/AIAssistantQuotaManager2.xml and idea.log. It selects one IDE, not a combination of accounts: the latest quota XML determines the source IDE; without an XML cache, the newest available IDE log is used.
Only a newer recognized quota event from that same IDE can replace its XML reading. The log reader accepts quota events from AI Assistant and Junie; it does not parse conversations. The XML read is capped at 256 KiB and the log tail at 4 MiB. Account identifiers, prompts, and paths are not retained in the snapshot.
Local, read-only
UsageNow never reads JetBrains credentials, opens its Keychain items, signs in, launches the IDE, or calls a JetBrains endpoint. The widget receives only sanitized display values, not the IDE files.
If limits are missing#
Open the IDE's AI Assistant usage view and let the IDE update its own data, then refresh UsageNow. Old readings keep their original age; unknown or changed formats are not replaced with guessed percentages. An expired allowance becomes unavailable rather than 100% remaining.
If an active subscription still shows no quota, report the IDE and UsageNow versions and the displayed state. Do not attach raw IDE logs, credentials, or private account data. See Report a Problem.
